Title: How to visualize 3-manifolds
Abstract:
In order to "see"
three dimensional manifolds, a topologist often represents them with lower
dimensional objects. I am going to talk about various different ways of
representing 3-manifolds such as Heegaard diagrams, Dehn surgeries, open books
and branched covers. Along the way, I'll also mention some of the related open
problems in 3-manifold topology.
