BACKGROUND

 

 

Professor Baris Tan is the Dean of College of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Koç University. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University in 1990.  He received a master's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (1991), a manufacturing systems engineering degree (1993), and a doctor of philosophy degree in operations research (1994) from the University of Florida. 

Baris Tan has been teaching management science and operations management courses in the business administration, MBA, and Executive MBA Programs at Koç University since 1994.

His main expertise is in design, control, and improvement of production systems, supply chain management, and operations research.  His current research interests are in stochastic modeling of operations, performance evaluation and control of manufacturing systems, analytical and numerical modeling techniques, and cooperation, subcontracting and outsourcing in supply chain management.

Prof. Tan held visiting positions at Harvard University-Harvard Center for Textile and Apparel Research (2000-2001), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) -Operations Research Center (2001) and MIT Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity (1999, 2006-2007).

Baris Tan serves on the boards of European Foundation for Management Development and CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education.  He also served on the boards of Turkish Society for Quality and Turkish Operational Research Society.
